Once you have children, you want them to look good. Getting hold of designer kids clothes often becomes a full time job. But with all the time spent on that, on looking after your child, and on working, you probably don’t have enough income left to go to the nearest Gucci store and simply put whatever you want on your child. However, if you follow these five tips, you will make sure your child looks great and you don’t have to break the bank.

1. Put Fit Before Looks

A lot of people see something in a glossy magazine, put it on, and expect to look like the fashion model in the magazine. It just doesn’t work like that. That is because different people have different bodies, and they have to find the right fit. This is doubly important for kids because they not only look strange in poorly fitted clothes, they won’t be able to move comfortably either.

2. Think About Combos

Next, you need to think about combinations. Perhaps a skirt and shirt set looked really good together, but will you be able to put different tops with the same skirt, or different bottoms with the same shirt? If not, you’re limiting how often your child can wear something. After all, you can’t wear the same outfit all the time and still impress people. If you think of combinations, you also have to buy less overall, saving money in the long run.

3. It’s all About Color

Your child will probably have a personal favorite color, and you need to make sure that you incorporate that in their clothes. But the colors also have to suit them once they are on. You need to think not just of personality, but also of body, posture, and skin color. Experiment a little bit to see what colors bring out the best of your child’s beauty. It is all too easy for a bright outfit to make your child look pale, for instance, and you want to avoid that.

4. Make Sure it’s Trendy

Parents often think about how good a child will look in a certain outfit at Christmas, or for an upcoming wedding, for instance. However, children’s fashion changes even quicker than adult fashion. This is also because your child will grow and change so much in a very short period of time. Hence, what you’re looking for is something that looks really good now, and not five months from now. Don’t buy summer clothes in winter, for instance.

5. Find Inspiration

The internet is filled with information for people who want to be able to make their children look like those of celebrities, but on a shoestring. All clothes are inspired by the collections of large fashion houses, you just need to be able to find which affordable labels copy them the best. Check out blogs, magazines, and television programs to see what is around. This is also a great way to keep your budget in check.
