the blog.
blog four. may 6th.
i am on a quest to start an organization that helps designers, artists and creative peeps that chose to make stuff over work a normal a job, get some benefits. or just be a resource for them. i dont think that exists. there are some cool organizations out there that support local designers or business people, but i am talking something more specific. like a network of indie designers and biz people to coach one another and a resource center for people to learn about insurance, how to run their biz, find web designers to help them build sites, etc, etc. all that good stuff in one place. and not the 85 year old man that helped me at the Small Business Association. business is different now. the internet tromps traditional retail. the landscape of retail is a changing kids…and i think we need more resources that are geared towards what we do and unique businesses.
whatcha think?

blog one. april 16th.
wtf? i wanna blog too. i am not the best writer and i hate caps. so i say fuck caps. i wanna rant about shit and give people fun tidbits about indie culture in sf. so darnit, i am gonna.
blog one.
indie food. i am intrigued. i like calling it indie food b.c its just that independent food. i moved here 4 years ago and thought gourmet was when i added a rub to my chicken breast or a velveeta grilled cheese on fresh sourdough. anyhoo, foodie culture here is a bit intimidating and i think sometimes a bit, shall i say, snobby. i like that this town is so full of amazing food, people re-inventing it, cool ideas, great ingredients, locally grown. i love it. but in my few years here i find it not as accessible to the masses or those broke ass fuckers like me. i wanna love it but i cant always afford a niman ranch steak or a $25 delores park day lunch at bi-rite. when i do, awesome. but my big beef with the food scene here is the intimidation and snooty factor. and for years i have been trying to bring food into the indie mart. i think indie music, design and art are all compatible. but food, not so much.
i like where things are heading though. i am so thrilled about mission food. affordable, fresh, great chefs, for a good cause. bing bing bing…we have a winner. the creme brulee guy in delores. sells out fast, awesome and twitters it all. awesome. the sausage girls in delores, same deal. this is indie food to me. independent, accessible and its spreading. i want to bridge the gap and bring indie food into another world though….foodies and food lives on its own. it doesn’t mingle with the other indies on the playground. (like design and music for example) join us, we like you.
retail and the over commercialization of the 80s and 90s is leaving us all with a taste for something new. no more big box stores, no more chains, no more red lobsters… i LOVE pop up shops and events to shop. i am beyond thrilled that this is happening more in food. underground and indie food…its about time there was more of it. mission food is bad ass. bravo to all these folks doing it and re-inventing the norm. making good food accessible. bringing foodie culture to the masses and those who wanna appreciate it but burn their toast still.
i want to see a food festival here that celebrates indie food and culture. i want an indie mart with all these people making stuff…tamale lady next to the sausage girls next to the pot truffle guy next to the creme brulee guy…you get it. and no more lame food tents with gyros, garlic fries and pizza. festival food blows and we are one of the only cities out there that has all these amazing events and festivals and the same lame food at them. outside of the corn at the fillmore street fair, i say scrap it all.
indie food people, hollar at me- please. i got some stuff up my sleeve. keep doing what youre doing. i am pretty f’ing excited to see whats going on lately.and so is the rest of the city judging from the office cooler talk at my work and whats on the blogs.
