This is the first time that I’ve heard of Indie Mart and I am very impressed with the concept and idea behind it. As an art and fashion enthusiast, I am often disheartened by the lack of creativity in clothing I see, so I find it very important to have space where independent designers can share their products with like-minded people. Fashion should be allowed to be democratic, where everyone who desires can learn to use a sewing machine and make their vision into a wearable piece of clothing. This is when clothing is truly creative and can be considered an art form and a genuine form of self expression.
With that being said, I would like to express my outrage at the fact that Indie Mart is 21+. I am a university student and happen to be under the legal drinking age, but I really don’t see what this has to do with my being allowed to look at clothing! I know plenty of people between the ages of 18 and 20 that would be avid Indie Mart customers if they were allowed in. This policy makes very little sense to me. Indie Mart could have a huge customer base among undergrads who are into art/fashion/creativity/underground culture, which there are plenty of.
