Our country is the richest in the world. There is food aplenty. And this is shown in the fact that our nation is also the fattest in the world. Unfortunately, we really seem to struggle to moderate our consumption of bad food, and we struggle to move enough to keep the weight off.

If you don’t want to be the next statistic, and the next person that has to opt for weight loss surgery. There are a couple of things we can. The first is to fight technology, from every angle. Here is how technology makes us fatter:

  • We spend hours each day watching television or using are mobile devices, instead of moving.
  • We are bombarded by advertisements on the aforementioned technological devices.
  • We use elevators and escalators instead of walking the stairs.
  • Technology has increased the availability of ready meals, but it hasn’t made them healthier. Avoid them as much as possible.
  • We are constantly shown advertisements of people obtaining fantastic bodies through plastic surgery, which means we have started to see it as an easy way out.

Next, you need to be realistic:

  • You won’t lose weight, or even stop growing fatter, unless you start eating healthy, nutritious, balanced meals.
  • There are no miracle pills that will melt the fat off while you sit and do nothing.
  • You have to start moving more. Even taking a walk is enough to burn some calories.
  • You must lower your portion sizes. There really is no need to eat to the point that you feel completely full. You only need to eat as much as your body actually needs.
  • The body ideals that we are presented with in the media are unrealistic. You must be aware of that, so you no longer beat yourself up over not quite looking like a stick thin model and deciding that it doesn’t matter anyway.
  • If you are obese, you are probably depressed as well. You must deal with that if you want to make a positive change.
  • You can’t do it alone. If you have a family and everyone eats too much, and the wrong things, you cannot be expected to be the only one who makes a positive change. At the same time, the rest of your family may not be interested in joining, so it will be up to you to make the tough decisions and to stop buying foods that are bad for everybody around.
