Sunday June 21st, from noon to 6pm, get your sweet ass to Thee Parkside where we will be rocking almost 100 vendors bringing you the best in vintage, local design, rad stores, tees & hoodies, skateboards, zines, records, handmade oddities and a ton of other cool things you couldn’t image making up yourself, all in an outside street fair setting with about 4,000 people joining you. We’ve got bands inside (um, hello, the Frail, The Red Verse & Shannon and the Clams!), DJ’s outside, fresh BBQ food, local foodies making you sweets & treats, D.I.Y. and a tons of interactive vendors sewing, creating, painting, screening…on command and in your face. hi guys. just wanted to address this. we’ve gotten some tough comments and frustration from the public, so wanted to let you all know the deal. in our two years, we had always been 21 and under as we did at venues that it was ok to have kids. i even drew a coloring book myself and folks who have been would let you know we were kid friendly and welcomed college kids and often had teen vendors to encourage them to design. the last few shows have been 21 and over because i wanted to do the event at the independent. the indie is in western addition, which is where i have had my store, which has since closed, my friends have businesses and where i live and hang out. in a bad economy, i have chosen to move it here to impact this rad neighborhood and encourage folks to shop locally over here in western addy. there are great places like mojo, parish trust, cc rider, mini bar, candy bar, fly, 821, everlasting tattoo and on and on.
though i would love nothing more than to allow everyone to come in and it be all ages, it is the policy of the independent that they are 21 and over. but for me the weight of impacting the local economy was more important. it is tough to find a venue thats a good fit for us and lets me keep the prices reasonable for vendors so i can truly keep it indie. if i want to charge $200- for a space i can have it a slew of all ages venues, but its a tough process that i put a lot of time, negotiation and work into. i assure you, i tried and have always made having all ages and kid friendly events a priority- along with always having alcohol, music and rad vendors. so, please be patient…come our next show, june 21st- we are back at thee parkside, where the we welcome all ages, dogs, babies, parrots, your pet snake, anyone and anything! its important to me to make it available to all, but i made a decision to impact my community this winter- scale back the shows so they are smaller and have them here in this hood. i apologize for those that couldnt come to our 3 shows over the winter and spring at the indie. please hang in there and check us out all summer long where we will be ALL AGES!
i can’t make everyone happy, but i do try! see you all in june and for those of you 21 and over, see you sunday!
